The Mary McLeod Bethune Scholarship is awarded to a
graduating high school senior who intends to pursue a
baccalaureate degree at a four-year college or university.
BACKGROUND
This scholarship honors Mary McLeod Bethune who was an
extraordinary educator dedicated to public service.
She founded the National Council of Negro Women and
Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida.
In addition to being an educator and an organizer,
Mrs. Bethune was also a political activist. She was the
first African American woman to be involved in the White
House, assisting four different US presidents. Mary McLeod
Bethune was also a leader in the Black Women's Club
Movement, served as president of the National Association
of Colored Women, and vice president of the NAACP.
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT
The award is in the amount of $1,000 per semester, based on availability of funds.
SELECTION CRITERIA
To be considered for the scholarship, the applicant must:

Be a student of African descent residing within our area of service (as explained below).

Live within our service area: Manhattan east to west from the East River to the Hudson River and north to south from 155th Street to Battery Park.

Be a graduating high school senior and have a B average (80 out of 100, 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale).

Participate in an extra-curricular activity and/or have a part-time job.

Demonstrate volunteerism (i.e., caregiver for a family member, teach Sunday school, clothing drive, volunteer at a community or nonprofit organization, etc.).

Be admitted to a Baccalaureate Degree program at an accredited institution by the fall semester 2025. Proof of registration from an official office will be required.

Each year, the Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter provides thousands of dollars in scholarship awards to qualified high school and college students who reside in the borough of Brooklyn. Most of our awards are renewable, four-year scholarships for those enrolled as full-time students with grade point averages of 2.5 each semester based on a 4.0 system, or its equivalent.*
Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter administers five different types of scholarships/awards (see below) to which York students are only eligible for three. An applicant who is selected as a candidate to receive an award must attend a virtual interview conducted by the Scholarship Committee, and provide proof of immigration status either as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
Brooklyn Alumnae Chapter Scholarship - a four-year continuous scholarship for Brooklyn residents, ranging from $1,000.00 to $2,000.00 per year. Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year college or university. Eligibility is based on maintaining a minimum 2.5 GPA for each semester.
Beverly Vance Memorial Scholarship - a $1,000.00 renewable award for Brooklyn residents seeking a four-year degree with a major in Communications, Speech, Drama, or a related field of study. Continuous eligibility is based on a full-time study with a minimum 2.5 GPA for each semester. Applicant must be an entering freshman student.
Angela M. Bledsoe Scholarship - a $1,000.00 annual renewable award for Brooklyn residents seeking a four-year degree with a major in Business and/or Finance. Continuous eligibility is based on full-time study with a minimum 2.50 GPA for each semester.

Dr. Che-Tsao Huang Endowment
Dr. Yves Roseus Citizen's Award for Outstanding Service and Advocacy in Occupational Therapy
Dr. Yves Roseus, an esteemed York College Alumnus and Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Department of Occupational Therapy, led a life dedicated to service and advocacy. In addition to his dedication to the York College community, he was Senior Occupational Therapist at Brookdale Hospital. He also served on the Roster of Accreditors for ACOTE, and was a Board Member of NYSOTA and NYSBOTC. His commitment to service and advocacy also helped to establish an occupational therapy program in Haiti. The Dr. Yves Roseus Citizen's Award at York College has been established in loving memory of Dr. Roseus's dedication and commitment to service and advocacy.

The New York City Department of Education offers the Jose P. Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy (OT/PT) Scholarship Program. Students in their 3rd, 4th, or graduate years of professional study in Occupational and Physical Therapy at participating colleges or universities are eligible to apply. The Legacy Scholarship Program of the National Association of Puerto Rican Hispanic Social Workers (NAPRHSW) is designed to support and empower graduate-level students pursuing careers in social work, mental health, and human services. The program honors the legacy of past leaders while fostering the next generation of professionals committed to serving Latino communities.
Recipients, known as Visionaries, will receive a $1,000 scholarship to help further their academic and professional journeys. In addition to financial support, each Visionary will participate in the Training Program, a virtual two-day intensive focused on essential skills in direct service, community organizing, leadership, policy, and program development.
Through this experience, Visionaries will gain valuable knowledge and hands-on training to become effective change agents in their communities. They will also engage in a year-long mentorship program with seasoned professionals in their field, receiving guidance and support for their personal and professional growth.
As part of their commitment, Visionaries will serve as liaisons between NAPRHSW and their universities, organizing a forum where NAPRHSW board members can engage with students and further the association’s mission.

- Student Leadership Award - These awards recognize outstanding student leadership consistent with the ideals and missions of Phi Alpha. The focus of the application is the student’s leadership, service, impact, and commitment. The awards are $1,000 for first
place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. Pomilla Award for Science Teaching
His children, with the assistance of colleagues and friends, have established this award in honor of Dr. Pomilla's love of and dedication to York College and its students.
This award aims to recognize academic excellence and financially aid students committed to excellence in the sciences.
- Full-time student (Must be registered for at least 12 credits)
- Must have completed 60 college credits at York
- Minimum of 3.25 GPA or higher at the time of application, and must be maintained
- Majoring in Environmental Health, Geology, Physics, Biology, or Chemistry
President Keizs English Award
To encourage and recognize an outstanding junior or senior majoring in English. This award is given to support the student's continued study at the College.
Requirements:
- Matriculated undergraduate student
- Junior Class Standing
- Minimum 60-90 earned credits
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA or greater
- Declared English Major
Selection: The recipient will be selected by the English Department Scholarship Committee.
President Keizs Music Award
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Declared Major in Music
- Full-Time Student
- Upper Freshman- Lower Senior
- One recipient will receive $1000
- Funds for Scholarships can be used towards tuition and books up to the cost of attendance.
- Selection will be made in the Winter Semester
- Disbursement will be made once all required documents have been submitted
- Prior recipients are not eligible to apply
- Academic excellence: the University of Oxford is one of the most competitive graduate environments in the world and applicants must meet or exceed the entry requirements of their chosen course. (Candidates will have a greater chance of successful admission if they have a First Class Honours or GPA of 3.70/4.00 or higher, or equivalent).
- Energy to use their talents to the full (as demonstrated by success in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, including where teamwork is involved).

The Dr. Taen-Yu Dai Memorial Award
The Dr. Taen-Yu Dai Memorial Award was established to honor his legacy of supporting graduating seniors who plan to continue their studies in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3.3 GPA or higher
- Declared in Mathematics, Computer Science, or an adjacent field.
- Full-Time Student
- graduating senior of the class of 2025 (degree must have been confirmed Summer 2024, Fall 2024, or Spring 2025)
- Pursuing an advanced degree within the field (Master, PhD, etc.) or adjacent field (i.e., MBA).
- Award amount varies and is currently unavailable until mid-May
- Funds for Scholarships can be used towards tuition and books
- Final selection will be made by an award review committee
- Disbursement will be made once all required documentation has been submitted
- Prior recipients are not eligible to apply
The Eye-Bank together with the Fabian family commemorate his enduring legacy with the following STEM Scholarship to help a qualified student pursue higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics – fields that Mr. Fabian considered essential to the advancement and benefit of today’s society.
The STEM field is any discipline pertaining to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. This includes, but is not limited to, astronomy, biology, chemistry/biochemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science, geology, healthcare, mathematics and physics.
